Instagram is at it again, borrowing a page from Snapchat’s playbook with their latest feature called ‘Instants.’ These are quick, disappearing photos that you can only share with your close friends or mutual followers. Why does this matter? Because it’s a new way for you to share your day-to-day moments, unedited and in the moment.
Rolling out globally, Instants appear in your Instagram app’s inbox, and there’s even a separate app being tested in places like Italy and Spain. To use Instants, just head to your DM inbox and look for the new icon. Snap a photo, share it, and watch as it vanishes after being viewed. It’s perfect for those spontaneous shots that don’t fit your usual Instagram grid. And while your friends can’t screenshot these Instants, you can keep them in an archive for up to a year or even reshare them in your Stories later. According to Instagram head Adam Mosseri, Instants offer a way to share more authentic, everyday moments. It’s a nod to the fact that many users are moving away from heavily curated profiles.
