Xbox Gamer Wins Account Restoration Lawsuit

An Xbox gamer just scored a big win against Microsoft, getting their hacked account and digital game library restored. This matters because it highlights the challenges gamers face with digital-only libraries.

The story began when Ordo_Liberal, a Reddit user, had their account frozen by Microsoft after unauthorized access. Instead of starting over, they took Microsoft to court in Brazil. Thanks to Brazil’s consumer protection policies, they hired a public defender for free and won the case. Microsoft now has 15 days to restore the account or face daily fines, plus pay about $400 in damages.

This case might not be as financially impactful as a class-action lawsuit, but it’s a beacon of hope for those worried about the transition to digital-only gaming.
