Call of Duty fans, brace yourselves! Activision has confirmed that Black Ops 1 & 2 are making a comeback on PlayStation, but don’t expect shiny new graphics. These re-releases are ports, not remasters, which means they won’t be taking full advantage of the PS5’s capabilities.
Set to drop in July, these classics will include the original modes: campaign, Zombies, and multiplayer. However, the announcement on X from Treyarch was pretty low-key, leaving us with more questions than answers. We still don’t know about pricing, DLCs, or whether a bundle will be offered. The porting duties are being handled by Iron Galaxy, known for their quality work on game ports.
Why does this matter? Well, if you’re expecting high frame rates and PS5-exclusive features, you might be disappointed. These games will likely run on the same server infrastructure as the originals, which means potential hacked lobbies could be an issue. If you remember the chaos from the old PS3 days, you know what we’re talking about. It’s a similar situation to what we saw with the GTA 5 upgrades.
For Xbox users, these games are already accessible through backward compatibility, but PlayStation players need these ports. Curious about how these ports will compare to PlayStation’s other port plans? Stay tuned for more details as we get closer to release!
