Why Paying Double for a Steam Deck Isn’t Worth It

Steam Deck prices are skyrocketing, but don’t break the bank just yet—there are better deals on handheld gaming PCs out there.

Valve’s Steam Deck has been out of stock for a while, leading to a jaw-dropping price surge. Currently, a 512GB OLED model might set you back around $1,110 on Amazon, which is double its original price. If that sounds too steep, you’re not alone. For that kind of cash, you could snag a Lenovo Legion Go S or an Xbox Ally X, both offering higher resolution displays, better performance, and more storage.

Even if you’re hunting for something like the Steam Deck, the Xbox Ally offers similar performance with a more comfortable grip. Sure, it runs Windows 11, but with the new Xbox Full Screen Experience, it’s not a bad trade-off. This shift in the market highlights how supply shortages can shake things up. Just a while back, the Ally was no match for the Steam Deck in terms of value.

If you’re still set on a Steam Deck, your best bet might be used listings on eBay, though you’ll likely pay close to the MSRP—and that’s with no guarantees. It’s a bummer for fans of Valve’s handheld gaming PC, but until the Steam Deck 2 arrives, consider exploring other options.
