Mario Kart Tour Ends: No Offline Mode Coming

Mario Kart Tour is waving the checkered flag for the last time as Nintendo announced it’s pulling the plug on this mobile racer come September 29. If you’ve been tearing up tracks on your smartphone since 2019, it’s time to squeeze in those final laps.

While the game’s been a fun ride and even contributed to the Switch’s expansion pass, Nintendo confirmed there’s no offline version planned. It’s a bit of a bummer for fans hoping to race on those unique tracks outside the online realm. This might be a nudge from Nintendo to steer players towards the console experience, maybe even eyeing the future with a possible Switch 2.

In-game purchases and subscriptions have been halted, but those with current Gold Pass subscriptions are in for a treat with free premium benefits until the end. Although Mario Kart Tour is bowing out, Nintendo is still dabbling in mobile territory with titles like Pikmin Bloom and a quirky new app, Pictonico!

Keen to see where Nintendo heads next with its mobile ventures or other gaming surprises? Stay tuned!
