The Xbox Series S is catching flak again, and this time it’s from the developers of No Rest for the Wicked. The founder of Moon Studio, the team behind the action RPG, has pointed fingers at the Series S for delaying the game’s release on Xbox. While the game is set to launch on PS5 this October, Xbox players will have to wait due to the console’s technical constraints.
During the PlayStation State of Play, it was confirmed that No Rest for the Wicked would hit PS5 to celebrate its 1.0 release. However, studio founder Thomas Mahler shared on Discord that optimizing the game for the Series S is proving tough. He mentioned that they’ll release the Xbox version “once it’s optimized like crazy for Switch 2 and Xbox.” This isn’t the first time the Series S has been blamed for delays. Games like Fallout 76 and Baldur’s Gate 3 also faced similar hurdles.
With Microsoft requiring that all Xbox Series X games run on the Series S with full feature parity, developers are finding it challenging to optimize for the less powerful console. This raises questions about whether Microsoft will continue with a dual-console strategy for its next generation, or if they’ll take a single-console approach. Until then, keep an eye on updates for No Rest for the Wicked and see how this console drama unfolds.
