TikTok Tests AI Tool to Spot Deepfakes

TikTok is diving into the deepfake fight with a new tool that helps creators spot AI-generated likenesses. This matters because deepfakes can be a real headache for creators who want to keep their content genuine and protect their image online.

Spotted by social media consultant Matt Navarra, this opt-in feature is currently being tested with select creators in the US. If you’re part of the test group, you’ll need to verify your identity through a quick selfie scan and ID check with a company called Jumio. Don’t worry, TikTok assures us it doesn’t keep your ID documents; it’s all about matching your face to find deepfakes.

Once you’re verified, TikTok’s system starts scanning for any sneaky AI content that might be using your likeness without permission. If it finds something fishy, you can review and report it. This move follows YouTube’s similar efforts to tackle AI misuse, as seen with their new detection tool for adults. Speaking of AI, did you know Netflix is using AI in over 300 titles this year? It’s a trend that’s definitely here to stay.

Keep an eye out to see if this tool rolls out more widely, or if TikTok adds more features to help creators maintain control over their online presence.
