YouTube is stepping up its game against low-quality AI content, refining its policies to keep the platform fresh and authentic. The update matters because it directly affects how creators can make money through the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), which is the main way creators earn from ads and subscriptions.
Previously, YouTube flagged inauthentic content, but now they’re breaking it down into three clear categories: repetitive or template-based content, distressing content, and AI personas discussing sensitive topics. The goal is to cut back on content farming, those cookie-cutter videos that offer little creativity or originality. This move comes as YouTube competes fiercely with TV and other streaming platforms for those precious ad dollars. In fact, YouTube’s ad revenue has now outstripped Netflix in daily views!
Creators might want to rethink how they use AI, as AI technology is a double-edged sword. It can power amazing creativity but also produce generic content. YouTube’s trust and safety chief, Matt Halprin, emphasized that while AI can boost creativity, it can also lead to low-quality content that the platform wants to avoid. With these new rules, YouTube aims to keep its content engaging and its users happy.
Keep an eye on how these policy changes might impact your favorite YouTubers and consider supporting creators who focus on quality over quantity.
